Image transformation API
Resize, crop and edit images by changing the URL
Frametile is an image transformation API. Add a few tokens to an image's URL and it comes back resized, cropped, recoloured, captioned or with the background removed. Your original is never touched.
How does an image transformation API work?
Every photo you upload has a URL. The transformations go at the end of it, separated by commas, and each extra step is separated by a slash:
https://frametile.com/api/YOUR_API_KEY/images/fruit/pear/w_600,h_600,c_fill,g_center
That request returns the pear photo as a 600 by 600 square. w_ and h_ set the size, c_fill fills the box and trims the overflow, and g_center keeps the middle of the picture. Request the same URL again and you get the same image, so it is safe to use anywhere an image address works: an <img> tag, an email, a product feed.

Why use URL-based transformation?
- No image pipeline to build. You do not run image libraries or resize jobs; the URL is the whole integration.
- One photo, many sizes. Serve a thumbnail, a hero and a retina version from the same upload.
- Familiar tokens. If you have used another URL image service, the tokens will look familiar. Read how Frametile compares as a Cloudinary alternative.

Common questions
What is an image transformation API?
A web service that changes an image when you ask for it. You request an image URL, and the transformations in that URL (size, crop, effects, format) are applied before the image is returned.
Do I need to upload my images first?
Yes. Upload photos to a folder in your Frametile account. Each one gets a permanent URL, and you add transformation tokens to that URL to get a different version without changing the original.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 25 credits a month, 1 folder and 25 photos, with every transformation token included. One credit equals 1,000 transformations.
Which transformations are supported?
Resize and crop, text overlays, effects such as sepia, grayscale and blur, output format and quality, and AI background removal.
